Ever have the itch to go full on into a commission only sales job? Maybe you’re reading this, remembering when you made the plunge. Do you remember what the signs were that led you to take the leap into your sales career? Most people ignore the signs for years before they overcome their fears and jump into sales.
I knew I was a salesman at an early age. I got the calling early in life. I’ve never worked a salaried job in my entire life. Sales has ALWAYS been the one thing I could an can count on to get me whatever it is I need. When I was young people would tell my folks that I belonged in sales all the time. They’d say “you got a little salesman on your hands”
I frustrated the sh*t out of my folks and other adults too. I had no fear of adults and I refused to take “no” for an answer
1: You Talk To Random People In Lines– If you’re like me, when you’re in line at a restaurant, grocery store or anywhere else and you start talking to the people around you, you’re not scared of strangers and you can use that as a gift in sales. In sales, 99% of the people you talk to will be complete strangers. If you’ve got the gift of gab, it’s a good gift to have..
2: You’re Competitive AF – People who play sports or gamble do well in sales. Especially the gamblers. Being in a commission only sales job is as risky as it gets. You’re betting your life that you can close a sale. This takes a competitive edge and if you’re a seriously competitive person, you’ve got a good chance of closing some deals.
3: You Like Helping People – If you’re the person your friends call when they need the hook up, you should get in sales. If you’re a natural born networker who likes to put people together and help everyone out, you’ll do well in sales. If you’re the guy with all the connections, you need to use them to your advantage to earn some commission.
4: You’re A Good Problem Solver – If you’re the guy who y our friends go to when they are in a jam, hoping you can put a plan together to get them out, you’ll prolly do damn well in sales. The people who do well at solving people’s problems, do well in sales. After all, sales is simply finding a problem and positioning your product as the solution.
5: You Can Handle Rejection – If you’ve ever had someone break up with you and you thought “ok on to the next one” then there’s a good chance you’ll do well in sales. Rejection is just a part of working in the industry. If there’s a product someone sales that closes at 100% then they are grossly under valued and need to raise their prices. Truth is, 100% close rates don’t exist, so no matter how good you are, you’re going to get turned down.
6: You’re High Energy – Do you drink a lot of energy drinks? Are you an early riser? Do you go hard all day long without taking a break? If so you need to apply this gift to sales. Those of us who have an active thyroid that pumps an abundance of energy into our system do really well in sales. Selling can be exhausting and high energy people do the best. Energy is contagious.
7: You Have An Addiction To Feed – Whether it’s gambling, drugs, drinking, sex, traveling, working out, or whatever, if you have an addictive personality you’ll most likely do well in sales. Getting addicted to closing sales is really common. After all, it’s one of the biggest rushes you will ever get and you can never stop chasing the high. When you use your addictive personality to your advantage in sales, you’ll earn some serious dough.
8: You Don’t Over Think Things – The folks who do best in sales are the action takers. Action takers learn from experience and improve with each lesson. There’s really no right or wrong way to sell something, it’s just a matter of taking action and learning what works best for you. If you need the perfect pitch before you talk to anyone, you will never gain the experience to know if it will work or not.
9: You’re Coachable – No matter what level you are on in sales, there’s always someone selling more. Those are the people you need to learn, copy and take direction from. If you think you know it all and have a HUGE ego, chances are you WILL NOT make it in sales. You have to be willing to always improve. Sales is a personal development program with a pay plan attached.
10: You Like Money– If you like nice things and having the money to buy them, sales will be the easiest way you can have them. When you work in sales, you have the ability to make all the money you can stand and then some. When you see people driving exotic cars sporting $100k watches, you can bet that person is in sales.
11: You Watched Wolf of Wall St and Set A Life Goal To Snort Blow Off A Hooker’s Ass – Hey I’m not here to judge. Many folks reading this right now have done that very thing and if that’s what floats your boat, just make sure you don’t get pulled over by the coast guard while all that blow is in it. When you make big money from sales, you can buy whatever in the hell you want.
Chances are, the fact that you’re reading this means you need to try out a job in sales if you haven’t already found it. Figure out what you would like to sell. Doesn’t matter what it is, just find out what you want to sell and go close the hiring manager on why they should let you take a stab at it. If you’re truly in love with the product, you’ll sell a lot of it. Lastly, whether you’re new, old school or a sales legend, you should join us in our mastermind at https://apexentourage.com
