Facebook’s Algorithm Change and How It Affects You

It’s all over the news. People are saying it’s the end of business on Facebook. FB stock has tanked since the announcement. Facebook’s algorithm is changing again; it’s now shying away from media and business pages. People are panicking trying to figure out how to “hack” the upcoming newsfeed changes. None of that is necessary.

People fear the f*ck out of change.

Any time anything in their lives changes, they panic, resist it and freak out. The natural tendency for most is to resist change. After all, change takes us out of our comfort zone and most people don’t like being uncomfortable.

When change comes and is inevitable, your job is to go with the flow, not resist it. When resistance is futile, don’t waste time trying to fight what’s coming. Instead, while others are fighting the change, you need to be one of the first to adapt to it, embrace it and benefit from it.

For the last three weeks, I’ve seen the usual social media talking heads tell their following it’s the end of their page’s exposure. To me, this is a good thing.

I’ve been waiting on the day FB stopped the black hat bullshit of some viral pages.

I, 100% believe, if you have a business page on Facebook, you should have to pay to promote it. No free rides. This would eliminate a lot of pages from Facebook. Many of the pages you see in your newsfeed shouldn’t be there anyway. The news stories from mainstream media and sites like RT or InfoWars need to pay for reach or fade away. We didn’t get on Facebook back in the day, to see the news. We joined to create news.

I run ads for my businesses so I have nothing to fear with newsfeed changes. My ads will still reach people and I’ll have less BS to get around to get them seen. But that’s just the business side, what about my personal page? I have a plan for that, too.

Mark Zuckerberg specifically mentioned connecting with friends and family on Facebook.

That’s where he wants the focus of Facebook to be. Since that’s the case, then you and I are in luck! As a sales professional, my job is to do business with people who know, like and trust me. If I can get real people to connect with me on Facebook and get my posts in front of them, I can make sales.

I’ve been quiet about it, but for years now, I’ve run ads on all sorts of sites that ultimately drive the prospect to connect with me on my personal Facebook page. About three years ago, when the price of FB ads skyrocketed overnight (it’s since gone back down), I focused on growing my personal page. I have around 20,000 people connected to my personal page and my posts regularly get 100-200 engagements per post.

If you work in sales or own a business, you need to also focus on growing your personal page.

After all, people want to connect with people, not a business. Be the face of your business and connect with your marketplace. If people buy from those they know like and trust, you need to convey those three points regularly to your connections.

Instead of worrying about the newsfeed and how it affects your pages, just get better at engaging with and connecting with the right people. While many folks are panicking and freaking out, you get a chance to step up your game and scoop up free leads. I’ve been doing it for years, and it looks like it’s about to get even easier.
