As a young man, I decided to become an entrepreneur instead of finishing school. I dropped out before I graduated the 9th grade and went to work. A few years passed, and as my old friends from school were loading up to go off to college I was debt free earning decent amounts of money.

Flash forward a decade and I see my friends who were college graduates with MBAs, earning less money than me. What’s worse is that they had massive amounts of debt from student loans hurting them too. They spent their 20s in college and I spent mine getting ahead and running a business. I had a decade of work and experience that they don’t teach in college.

College is a hot topic right now. Many of the Fortune 100 recently announced that now do not require a college degree to get a job. When Apple, Google and Microsoft no longer require a degree, you know the value of a college degree is dropping significantly. We see posts on social media all the time saying “college is a waste of money” or “my student loans are killing me” and there are many entrepreneurs doing multiple millions in business every year who didn’t go to college.

I think we are at a time where we are witnessing the the death of the American Dream of getting a degree, getting a good job, and working up the corporate ladder.  If you look closely though, you’ll see a new American Dream emerging.

The dream of becoming a coach or consultant is the new American Dream. People who have learned from their own experiences and can teach effectively are in high demand right now. Business owners, professionals and experts all hire coaches, and I don’t think any college has a degree for coaching. I’ve had over 14,000 coaching clients in the last decade and not a single one of them asked me for my college degree.

I recently spoke with Bedros Keuilian, an Armenian immigrant who came here to the USA and literally had to eat out of trashcans to stay alive. Despite the odds he worked hard in the gym and became an expert at fitness. From there he started coaching fitness professionals and has grown his coaching business and his fit body bootcamp franchises to over 700 locations world wide. His entire empire built from coaching people from his own experience.

Coaching is the new American Dream and it’s alive and well. After all, who doesn’t want to be a coach? Everyone has experiences from situations, that they can help others with. Coaching clients has never been as easy as it is right now. The internet, social media and conference lines make virtual coaching easy and inexpensive.

Another example of an amazing coach is Setema Gali Jr. Setema went to the Super Bowl and won when he played for the New England Patriots. Since his departure from the NFL, he’s been a success and life coach. Thanks to technology, Setema has built his own coaching empire around the world. He’s more than replaced his NFL money with coaching money.

Coaching comes from experience. The experience of winning and persevering through tough times and against the odds. Guys Like Grant Cardone and Tony Robbins have built 9 and 10 figure empires that started with coaching.  Coaching doesn’t require a degree, it just requires experience and an ability to teach others.

I recently saw a podcast interview with Ed Mylett and Teddi Mellencamp and she was talking about building her empire using accountability coaching. She had an eating disorder and beat it by holding herself accountable. Now she makes extremely good money holding others accountable like she held herself.

Have you ever thought about coaching others? If so, what would you coach them on?

The consulting and coaching industry is very popular right now. It’s one of the top industries in the modern era to work in. The best part is not only do you make good money, you help people and that’s the real pay day.

If you’ve ever considered coaching, now is the time to start. There are lots of people who run really successful coaching businesses. There’s nothing stopping you from being the next guru coach that everyone flocks to for help. The American Dream is alive and well and it’s thriving in the coaching industry.
