After I speak from the stage, I often give the audience a chance to ask me some questions that are important to them. One of the most frequent questions I get goes something like “If you were to log in to Facebook today for the first time, knowing what you know, how would you get leads for your business?”
It’s a valid question.
If we are being honest, most people use Facebook wrong for business, so it is like they ARE logging in for the first time, every time they log in. No one follows them because they are boring, and no one answers their DMs because they are spam.
I’ve been using Facebook full-time for my business since 2010. By “full time” I mean all the time. I started using Facebook in 2008. I used to get mortgage leads from my friends on there. That was when I knew I was on to something. My old bosses didn’t agree. They always told me to stay off of Facebook and quit wasting my time.
In 2010 I started a small social media management company. I ran social media by myself for a group of 70 or so clients. I would post 5Xs per day on each client’s page. It was too much to keep up with and I had to shut it down. At the time I had no idea how to hire help. No one was doing social media for a living and jobs were plenty.
I failed, but I knew what was possible, and although I had gone about doing it wrong, I knew I was on to something. By 2012 I was teaching people how to use social media themselves to get leads and make sales online. It was starting to come together. I had digital courses, live events, and a mastermind all based around selling from social media.
From there, I went on to use social media to leverage TV stars, athletes, and entrepreneurs as students and clients. I don’t do courses anymore, but I still got the game on lock when it comes to masterminds and live events.
I haven’t ran a paid ad since 2019. My mastermind does 8 figures per year from Facebook and Instagram alone, all organic. So when I tell you what I’m about to tell you, I mean it and have lived it.
On Facebook, there’s a group called Sales Talk with Sales Pros and it has 103,000+ members in it at this time. It’s the single largest sales group on Facebook. I build that group from scratch over the past 8 years. When it comes to making money from Facebook groups, I am hands down the best there is. Periodt!
I gave you my experience and credentials in case you want to doubt what I’m going to tell you here. I’ve done it. I do it. And I will keep on doing it. You’re about to learn it, so it’s 100% up to you to do it.
First off, you don’t need a lot of friends and followers to make sales from social media, especially on Facebook. The coolest thing about Facebook is the group’s function. No matter how many friends you have, there’s a group you can fit in, belong to, and make new friends who might even buy your shit.
However, if you do Facebook groups wrong, you might as well log off and stay off cause no one is gonna buy from you. I’m gonna give you the Facebook group game. Although it’s super simple, don’t knock the effectiveness of it.
Most people think you need to make a post in a group in order to get attention. It’s actually the exact opposite, especially in big groups. If you’re making posts, you’re trying to start a new conversation. If people don’t know and trust you already, they won’t talk to you (usually) Instead, what works best is finding popular posts and commenting on them. Either replying to the other commenters or just making your own comment.
When you comment on a popular post everyone gets a notification of who was also on the post. This gets you way more attention than if you posted a new post in the group. This allows you to get the attention of a lot of people at once.
Don’t sell shit in the comments. Add value.
Don’t have some sort of pre-written spam comment either.
These are prospects, take the time to articulate something valuable for them so that they will want to send you friend requests, DMs, and reply to your comments. After all, some of them will end up being your customers over time.
Find a group that most likely has a ton of your best prospects in it, go in the group, get to know the admin, comment on popular posts, add value and before long you’ll get what’s called a group badge. When you get a badge, other people know you are a good member, which will also lead to requests, higher engaged posts, etc.
This little and simple hack is the best way to get leads and close sales from Facebook even if you have almost no followers or friends. The groups are where the gold is. Remember that!
