Think of it this way:

Let’s say you are really good at karate. You can kick, you can punch and maybe even jump kick. For decades you were considered a complete badass if you had a blackbelt in karate. Then, MMA came on the scene. These guys can kick, punch, wrestle and roll. A green belt in most MMA styles can beat the shit out of a karate blackbelt. Karate don’t teach how to roll, and if a MMA guy gets you on the ground, you’re fucked.

Now let’s liken this to sales.

If you ONLY know how to knock doors, or ONLY close face to face, or ONLY cold call, you’re in trouble. There’s a new generation of Closers who can do all of those things plus they can leverage social media, sell via video, speak from the stage and more. If you go up against the competition equivalent of sales MMA, you will lose every time, no matter how great you may be at the ONE THING you’re a master of.
