When most people think about starting a business, they think they need things like a MBA, a banker, an attorney and investors. Since most people don’t know any of these people, and can’t afford to pay for their services, most people never start a business.

Yet there’s never been a better time in history to start a business!

After all, if your service sucks, or is slow, you can simply blame covid and get a free pass. This is an unprecedented time for an entrepreneur to fail forward.

Most business is now done via Zoom, or some other web streaming service. This means you don’t need to spend any money on an office. No one wants to meet face to face any way. Again, this is a huge savings to the start up entrepreneur.

Personal injury attorneys are hurting for money right now, with less people on the streets, less accidents happened, less lawsuits. Plus the courts are backed up for years at this point. These attorneys can write LLCs, and operating agreements for you for cheap, if you find the right one.

All that aside, to really stand out and be a business owner in 2021, there are 5 mandatory skills you must have. To ignore and not adopt these skills, is the certain future death of your start up.

I’ve owned my own businesses since 2005. I had no money, no connections, no degree and no idea how the hell I was gonna pull it off, but I did. You don’t need all the fancy skills accountants, lawyers, and bankers have. You just need these 5 skills that will allow you to pay everyone else to do the fancy (boring) shit.

Sales: If you can sell, you won’t fail. I don’t care what business you start, if you can’t close a sale, you won’t get any clients. Sales is the #1 skill every entrepreneur and business owner needs. If you get good at sales, you can always create revenue for the company you own.

Sales is the lifeblood of a startup. The more sales you close, the faster you can go from start up to established. If you get good at sales, you won’t need bankers or investors, you can bankroll yourself with your own sales skills.

Marketing: In business, marketing gets the attention and sales gets the money. Without attention, there is no money. Marketing is the second most important skill, behind sales. But without marketing there are no sales to close.

When you can generate your own leads and close your own sales, you become the most powerful person in business. It’s only a matter of scale and replication to get to the top.

Technology: Those who ignore technology are doomed to be ignored. We live in the technology age. If you are going to run and own a business, you need tech skills. You need to know how to build websites, use social media, operate a POS machine and online ecommerce.

Technology isn’t some fad, like what you dad used to say. Technology is only getting more and more important to the business world. You’re gonna need technological skills to get to the top of your market and stay there.

Creativity: As you saw in 2020, businesses who fail to innovate, become stagnate and die off. Businesses who didn’t come up with quick solutions to unprecedented circumstances quickly found themselves in the unemployment lines and living off stimulus checks.

You must be able to pivot when needed, make moves when the play is open and find solutions to every problem that comes your way. Business is a game of creativity. Every problem HAS a solution, it’s up to your creativity to envision and bring that solution to life.

FYE Mindset: You’re going to want to quit. You’re going to have a million reasons to do so. You’ll have valid excuses as to why this life ain’t for you. FUCK YOUR EXCUSES. On the path to your destiny, the Force of Average will use the power of self doubt to distract you, stay strong and focused on winning no matter what.

One of the biggest secrets to success in business is simply not quitting. There is a time that comes in every business where momentum starts. For me, it took 10 long ass years to get there, but I didn’t quit and I’m damn sure glad I didn’t.

Once you focus on mastering these 5 skills, instead of the fancy skills everyone thinks you need, you will prevail and win big in business ventures. These 5 skills are also transferable and duplicatable. Building to scale is a huge part of success and replicating these 5 skills into the key players in your corporation will create an unstoppable team of winners.
